Scrooge and the Tao of Christmas
We’re pretty familiar with the Dickens’ classic ‘A Christmas Carol’, whether it’s from the mouths of The Muppets or the pages of the great novel itself.
It’s an imaginative, fun and heart warming story, but what was Dickens trying to tell us?
Well here’s some food for thought to chew over whilst huddled up with your hot steamy brew…
Dickens described the moral of his story as ‘Carol Philosophy’; “Christmas”, he says “is a good time: a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time: the only time I know of in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of other people…”.
So we accompany Scrooge on his turbulent emotional journey of transformation as he learns this all in one night!
Scrooge’s Christmas turned out very differently than he expected! But it was all for the better.
So 160 years on, this story reminds us to let go of the expectations to have a perfect Christmas. We can stay grounded and instead of fighting the crowds on frantic shopping sprees, we can enjoy the simplicity of family, friendship and goodwill – finding harmony with whatever happens!
