When the herbal tea is cheaply-priced and the staff, efficient and straight down the line, won’t judge you, or try to become your new best friend when you’ve spent all day typing reviews and gazing out the window, then you know you’ve found your way into Coffee#1. The latest instalment to the growing empire is the recently-opened café on Wellfield Road. The format remains the same: good coffee, delicious cakes and snacks and a comfortable and restful place to take a sip. Whichever one of three locations you drink at and while away a few hours in, it’s number one in our books. ItchyCardiff.co.uk

They serve the best coffee, bar none, in Bristol. Critique, Bristol
A small, independent chain doing what the big boys do with loads more character and charm. Great coffee, in all the usual variations, tea, hot chocolate, and lots of yummy cakes and biscuits on the counter to tempt you. Loumc, Bristol
It was a lovely, warm, relaxing place with wooden floors, comfy leather sofas upstairs, papers to read and yummy food and drink. I discovered my new favourite drink there – hot apple and cinnamon. They put the apple juice through the hot steamer that they’d normally froth milk with, and then sprinkle cinnamon on it. It comes out slightly frothy on top, with a warm, baked apple smell to it. Mmm mmm mmm. Together with a couple of Welsh cakes (like scones, only flatter) and a bite or two of H’s massive, mince pie-tasting toasted tea cake, it was a perfect way to spend a couple of hours hiding from the cold. Nice friendly place to get a good cup of coffee. Really yummy cakes and paninis too! The smoothies are also very tasty and you can tell yourself the goodness of the fruit counteracts the badness of the cakes!! becky04, Bristol
It’s what coffee-house dreams are made of! With doorstep-sized focaccias, lavish gourmet coffees served in chunky mugs and warm, friendly staff, treats such as homemade chocolate chip shortbread biscuits and hot chocolate that makes you feel warm and fuxxy inside, it’s a place for sheer indulgence. The comfy sofas, laid-back atmosphere, and local artwork complete the picture of coffee house perfection. Starbucks take note! The Insider’s Guide to Cardiff
It’s lovely. Warm and cosy with couches and tables, there’s tea and cake (and coffee of course) and lots of newspapers and magazines lying around. The toilets are clean and light and bright and friendly, like the rest of the coffee shop. I really like it in here. Tommowinnie, Cardiff

Whether you prefer the house filter, foamy cappuccino, a pure latte, americano or macchiato, the coffee here never disappoints. Good barista training is clearly evident. For a change in liquid refreshment the exotic smoothies, teas or freshly crushed juice provides a welcome caffeine break.
If you’re after a quick snack, late breakfast, or afternoon energy boost the cheese cakes, pastries, mini quiches (with side salad) and paninis are tempting, fresh and well presented.
The slate flooring, soft brown leather sofas, wooden tables and padded chairs are apparently inspired by coffee houses in British Colombia and echo its Atlantic Coffee past. Sam’s paintings of Abergavenny farm animals are not to everyone tastes, but then Van Gogh also failed to find buyers during his lifetime.
The international staff and clientele reflect the cosmopolitan character of the community. Yummy mummies share tables with middle aged actors, newspaper photographers, real estate negotiators, university students and telecom sales teams.
Albany Road is not one of Cardiff’s better shopping streets – more for the locals – but this coffee house makes up for the lack of sophisticated alternatives. Greg44, Cardiff
Coffee #1 is definitely a lovely cafe and does a great selection of food and drinks and their cakes are pretty darned gorgeous. Twinkle star, Cardiff
