Breakfast? Second Breakfast? Elevensies?…
“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world”
(J.R.R. Tolkien)

Aragorn: Gentlemen! We do not stop ’til nightfall.
Pippin: But what about breakfast?
Aragorn: You’ve already had it.
Pippin: We’ve had one, yes. But what about second breakfast?
[Aragorn stares at him, then walks off.]
Merry: Don’t think he knows about second breakfast, Pip.
Pippin: What about elevenses? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper? He knows about them, doesn’t he?
Merry: I wouldn’t count on it.
We get rather a lot of hungry hobbits and wayfarers stumbling across Coffee#1, in need of a wholesome fill.
Shire folk think about food a lot and have a very refined taste. They like the new and the traditional, the familiar and the foreign. So we take special care to provide snacks for every appetite, honoring all six meals of the day.
Tea Cakes
We asked our baker, Colin, to conjure up the most impressive tea cakes in all of Middle-Earth. After several hours of mixing fruits and spices and needing and baking dough – for just the right amount of time and at just the right temperature – Colin emerged, covered in flour, with sultanas stuck to his apron, brandishing something as big and round as his face! So now he bakes and delivers our wondrous teacakes fresh every morning ready to be loaded up with a few slabs of butter and scrumptious strawberry jam.
Pastries
Admittedly not quintessential Hobbit cuisine, but if you like to snack a la continental, have a café au lait (aka latte) et jus d’orange avec un patisserie! We’ve also got Pain au Chocolat and some of those delicious swirly Pain au Raisin too. If you’re feeling slightly more decedent, try one of our monster creamy custard-filled almond croissants!
Welsh Cakes
Judging by the mountains of welsh cakes we get through every day at Coffee#1, the Shire is well and truly under the spell of these tasty little tempters. Just a simple mix of flour, sugar, milk, butter and sultanas… Something like a crumbly cross between a scone and a scotch pancake.. just the right size to slip in your pocket for a sneaky treat later.
Toast
Some of life’s greatest pleasures are the most simple. Toast done the old fashioned way, chunky hand cut bread toasted on a hot plate with butter and jam or marmalade.
Bacon & Sausage Baps
Quality locally sourced pork sizzled to perfection, with a good blob of brown sauce or tommy K… hits the spot any time of day!
Skinny Granola Yoghurt Pots
Not just for those who are watching the waist-line, this is a delicious layered pot of crunchy granola, tangy berry compote and smooth creamy yoghurt.
Farewell brave hobbits. We hope our paths will cross again soon
