The future in a coffee cup?
Let’s start with a beautiful quote from an anonymous Turkish poet:

“Not the coffee, nor the coffeehouse is the longing of the soul. A friend is what the soul longs for, coffee is just the excuse.”
…He obviously hadn’t tasted our coffee!
Anyway, what we’re talking about is the ancient art of reading coffee grounds – as practiced in the mystical bazaars of the Middle East.
Although the magic arts of the Arabian mystics are not easily taught, it’s a fun way to enchant your friends and practice your psychic skills over a cuppa.
Are you sitting comfortably? Let your cup become your crystal ball, and we’ll begin…
Middle Eastern coffee traditionally has grinds in. Thankfully the coffee we serve isn’t full of bits, but you can ask your barista for some grounds to sprinkle in for fortune-telling purposes.
It’s best to use a white cup to contrast with the coffee grounds. So our Coffee#1 cups are perfect because they’re white inside.
Five Easy Steps
1. The coffee drinker should be relaxed, contemplative whist gazing into the cup. Allow thoughts to flow… if the coffee is drunk in a hurry the grounds will be unreadable!
2. Finish the coffee, leaving a little bit in the bottom with the grounds in.
3. Place the saucer on top of the cup, give it a swirl, and then turn it upside down, allowing the liquid to drain out, leaving just the grounds behind in the cup.
4. Turn the cup up again and observe the patterns remaining in the cup.
5. The shapes/symbols in the white gaps are considered “good” signs and those formed by the black grounds are the dark omens!
Let your imagination flow!
