We were extremely flattered to read the below review today on alt:Cardiff, who in the light of our recent award decided to test our credentials against one of our competitors.

We’re delighted to report that we seemed to come up trumps on all counts. The full review is below:

Who offers the better coffee experience? National winner versus Starbucks

Cardiff born coffee chain, Coffee#1 recently won the ‘Best beverage experience’ title (BEV-E ’09) at the Beverage Service Association’s national awards.

Alt:cardiff reviewed a local Coffee#1 shop to see if it would still come up tops when compared to worldwide success Starbucks – which wasn’t part of the UK competition.

Beverage quality: Both tasty and piping hot. However, Starbucks’ coffee was larger and (marginally) cheaper.

Service: On leaving got a cheerful ‘goodbye’ from Coffee#1 staff. The Starbucks crew were too busy to notice.

Environment: Both were spacious and relaxing, however, Starbucks was a bit noisy and lacked Coffee#1’s local feel.  In terms of cleanliness, Starbucks felt neglected: deserted mugs and a clogged toilet.

So, who offered the better coffee experience? It’s clear: Coffee ‘won’.
